Claire Rice is a Somerset based painter who takes inspiration from the people and places around her.
Her interest is in the way we inhabit the landscape rather than the landscape itself so many of her paintings are 'urban' or as urban as you can get in the depths of the West Country!
Claire's work can be found in galleries up and down the country from Cornwall to Yorkshire.
Sometimes she works as an in-house gallery painter and enjoyed a successful couple of years as a painter on the Barbican.
Her work is widely collected and appears in many collections both in the UK and overseas.
Each painting is reproduced as a limited edition print which is never the same size as the original. Therefore if you own an original it will stand out amongst the really high quality prints that are produced today.
An unlimited run of small framed prints is always available as are art cards.
Commissions are welcome.
Claire trained as a design draftsperson, hence her love of a straight line. She began painting portraits but soon developed a style of painting street scenes which soon became her signature style and is used to paint local views wherever her work is sold in galleries.
Early on in her professional life as a painter, she started an art and craft cooperative in the Somerset village where she lives. Long since disbanded the members have gone on to develop their skills and many are well established artists in their own right.
Her latest endeavour is a set of West Country Cards in a series of twenty views to collect.
Claire still loves to paint portraits and is happy to work from photographs.
